Bryant Boys and Girls Club receives $25,000 grant

BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) - The Heart of Arkansas United Way will announce Friday, Feb. 27 that the Bryant Boys and Girls Club will receive a grant of $25,000.

This grant is meant to help the organization with healthy snacks for all of the students who attend their afterschool program for the 2015 calendar year. Currently, over 40 percent of the Bryant Boys and Girls Club's members are eligible for free or reduced lunches and the grant will help provide healthy after school snacks no matter what the financial issues are in the home.

IPDRA working to finish rebuilding what the storm left behind

MAYFLOWER, Ark. (KTHV) – The central Arkansas community still needs the help of lending hands following April’s deadly tornado. One organization is working in coordination with the Vilonia Disaster Recovery Alliance and the Faulkner County Long-Term Recovery Board to get volunteers out to these devastated areas of the state in an effort to help finish rebuilding what the storm left behind.

Inter-Faith and Partners Disaster Recovery Alliance (IPDRA) is made up of several faith-based and voluntary organizations that are working together to secure volunteers, material resources, and funding to meet the needs of others living in Faulkner County and beyond.

AGFC approves grant of fine money to counties

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (September 18, 2014) – When the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission collects fines from game law convictions, the money goes back to the county where it was collected. During Thursday's monthly Commission meeting, the agency approved a grant of more than $679,100 to the Arkansas Department of Education as a result of fines collected during the 2014 fiscal year.

The money is used to fund educational programs focused on fish, wildlife and conservation in the counties where the offenses occurred. The highest amount of fine money went to Drew County with just over $28,000. The next highest amount went to Arkansas County with more than $25,900 in fines.

Resident describes big cat in Hot Spring County

HOT SPRING COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Could a big cat be on the prowl in Hot Spring County? Multiple people say they have seen it, but no one is really sure what it could be. One woman said it is way bigger than anything she has ever seen.

The first sighting was on Highway 222 off of Highway 9 south of Malvern. At least four people have seen it. One woman who saw this big cat says it was terrifying.

"I hollered at my husband," said Lisa Orr. "I said get your gun. There is a lion in the yard."

Enjoy the great outdoors on Arkansas Trails Day

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – The 22nd anniversary of National Trails Day, America's largest trail celebration, is slated for June 7. Events throughout the U.S. will join this nationwide observation of America's wealth of trail types and experiences while encouraging the public to enjoy a trail. According to State Trails Coordinator Mike Sprague, "The kick off to Arkansas's celebrations will begin a week earlier on Saturday, May 31, with trail events of all kinds in Little Rock and North Little Rock.
