NLRSD's Crestwood Elementary receives Thea's Art Closet grant

The Thea Foundation is happy to announce that Crestwood Elementary School of the North Little Rock School District recently received art supplies through a donation from the Crestwood Elementary PTA and a matching grant from Thea’s Art Closet, for a total of $1,500 in art supplies for Crestwood.  Thea staff members delivered the supplies to Crestwood art teacher Jenny Delgado on Tuesday, March 26.

Crestwood received supplies from a customized list created by Delgado, varying from essential items such as drawing paper, acrylic paints and colored pencils to more sophisticated items such as modeling clay, India ink and Alphacolor pastels.  The collection of art supplies donated is curated to suit the grades represented by the school, and is predicted to last, at minimum, an entire school year.

LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas is one of a few states that offers the General Educational Development test at no cost to the student, but because of changes on the national level that require state-level compliance, that is likely to change, says Janice Hanlon, Arkansas’s GED Administrator.

The program is under the authority of the Arkansas Department of Career Education and serves Arkansans who are 16 years or older, not enrolled in or graduated from high school, and who meet other state requirements regarding residency and testing eligibility.

Schools, Health Department offer flu vaccines for K-12

(LITTLE ROCK) —The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and local school districts statewide are again offering the seasonal flu vaccine to school children in grades K-12 beginning the week of October 8. School clinics will be going on for the next several months.

Seasonal flu vaccine is not required for children to attend school, but it is highly recommended.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP) recommend everyone aged 6 months and older receive a seasonal flu vaccine every year.  Seasonal flu causes children to miss school and their parents to miss work.   If you have insurance, the ADH will ask your insurance company to pay for the cost of giving the vaccine.  If you do not have insurance or your insurance company does not pay, the shot will be no charge to you.
