Dance-off festival in downtown Malvern

MALVERN, Ark. (KTHV) - The Hot Spring County Youth Council is hosting the 2015 Malvern Street Fest and Dance on August 15. 

This event happening on West Third Street will span from the back of the Panache building all the way down to the Chamber of Commerce. It will also span into the Mayor's Office parking lot. 

All of the festivities will begin at 5 p.m. and will last until 10 p.m. There will be a karaoke hour, games, rides, inflatables for children and a major dance-off happening in the middle of it all. Included in the fun, will be a large assortment of merchandise and food vendors.

There are still spots available for any vendor that is interested. It is free for any booth that would like to set up. They will need to arrive for check-in and set up between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. that Saturday. Vendors will have to provide their own tents and tables.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Rock icon and media start Bret Michaels will bring his “True Grit” tour to the stage on Saturday, August 1 at Magic Springs’ Timberwood Amphitheater in Hot Springs.

The show begins at 8 p.m.  

Bret Michaels is a man of many hats including the one he wears on stage. He is a singer-songwriter, musician, actor, director, screenwriter, producer and reality television personality.

He first gained fame as the lead vocalist of the metal band Poison, selling more than 45 million records worldwide and 15 million records in the United States alone. The band charted 10 singles to the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, including six Top 10 singles and the number-one single, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."

LOVERBOY

Loverboy is a Canadian rock group who accumulated numerous hit songs, earning four multi-platinum albums and selling millions of records.

The band's hit singles, particularly "Turn Me Loose" and "Working for the Weekend," have become arena rock staples and are heard on classic rock and classic hits radio stations  today. They are currently based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Month long railroad safety initiative in central Arkansas

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - Members of Central Arkansas Operation Impact Traffic Enforcement Group will conduct a month long traffic initiative focusing on railroad crossing safety and pedestrians trespassing on railroad property in August. 

According to national non-profit organization Operation Lifesaver, a vehicle or person is hit by a train every three hours in the U.S. Arkansas was ranked number 15 in a list of states that have the highest percentage of rail grade collisions in the United States. These same statistics show that 73 percent of all highway-rail crossing fatalities for 2014 occurred in just 15 states, again with Arkansas in the list ranked at 14. 

For the month of August, officials will be enforcing the rules regarding railroad safety. Lt. Curtis Wood with Central Arkansas Operation Impact Traffic Enforcement stated that anyone who tries to risk their life trying to beat an approaching train they will be cited.

Man dies after driving into parked logging truck

Man dies after driving into parked logging truck

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - A man died Monday morning after crashing his van into a parked logging truck in Benton. 

Bradley Becker, 65, was traveling near the intersection of Edison Ave. and Third Street Monday, July 8 around 8:45 a.m., when he reportedly veered off the roadway and struck the rear of a nearby parked logging truck.

Becker was transported to Saline Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The Benton Police Department is still investigating the details behind the crash.

Sidewalk Prophets is a contemporary Christian music band from Nashville, Tennessee. Their album “These Simple Truths” contained the single "The Words I Would Say", which is also featured on WOW Hits 2010 and WOW Hits 2011. The group won the 2010 GMA Dove Award for New Artist of the Year.

Newsong is an American contemporary Christian music group founded in 1981, at Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia. They have had eight GMA Dove Award nominations. They are the founders of the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular, the United States' largest annual Christian music tour.
