Behind the scenes at Malvern's Acme brick plant
News

MALVERN, Ark. (KTHV) - If you know anything about the city of Malvern, you know they are considered the brick capital of the world.

If you thought the process of brick making was as simple as mixing a few chemicals together, you'd be wrong. THV11's Marlisa Goldsmith found out that there's a lot more science behind it.

"We're the brick capital of the world," Jay Isenhour said. You can find the Acme brick plant smack dab in the middle of the state.

"I was born in the brick plant business long ago."

Isenhour is the plant manager at the Acme brick plant and knows just about everything about bricks. "There's a lot of science and art in brickmaking."

Isenhour explained that brickmaking is no new concept and has actually been around for thousands of years.

The entire brick can be made right here in the largest U.S.–owned brick manufacturer. Spraying mist and nearby fans keep these linemen going. After all, there is no time to stop with requests for bricks coming from all over the world.

It is no job for the weak. It takes strength, stamina and most importantly a good attitude.

It's clear that these people have a passion for what they do, and love who they do it with.

There's no shortage of smiles, and the boss knows everyone by name. It's an attribute with a big impact that makes the sweat worthwhile.
