Garland County sheriff warns of jury duty phone scam

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Garland County Sheriff Michael McCormick is warning of an old phone scam that is making its rounds again.

Several Garland County residents have reported that they were contacted by phone and told that they had not reported for jury duty. The callers have identified themselves as being with the Garland County Sheriff's Department and that warrants had been issued for their arrest. The caller then tells victims that arrest could be avoided by purchasing a $500 debit card from Kroger. The caller then tells the victim to call them back with number of the debit card and the pin number.

Sheriff McCormick would like to remind everyone that these types of unsolicited phone calls are usually the result of scammers trying to get you to remit funds and release identifiable information.

Please use caution when receiving any type of phone call that attempts to get your personal information or money from you.
