Benton PD searching for driver behind hit-and-run near Junior High School

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - The Benton Police Department is searching for the driver that hit a 13-year-old on a skateboard Tuesday morning. 

At around 7:26 a.m., officers responded to a hit-and-run accident near the Benton Junior High School. When they arrived on the scene, police made contact with the 13-year-old victim who claimed he was skateboarding near the intersection of Border and North Street when he collided with a truck.  The victim told police that he was unable to stop as he and a truck approached the intersection. The teen reportedly hit the front driver's side of the vehicle, causing him to roll over the hood and land on the pavement. 

The vehicle is described as being a small dark colored truck with red wheel rims and a rusted, roughed up truck bed. 

The victim was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries to his knees, elbows, and head.

Central Park Fusion Cuisine hosts HS Wine & Food Fest

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - Central Park Cuisine will host the Hot Springs Wine & Food Fest Saturday.

The festival is the leading fundraiser for Project HOPE Food Bank, with a goal of raising money to fight food insecurity in the community. 

The event will be held on October 17 at Central Park Fusion Cuisine.  Doors open at 2 p.m. with gourmet hors d'oevre prepared by Chef Matt Fuller and pared with fine wines.  There will also be live music and a silent auction. 

All proceeds from the silent auction, raffle and table sponsorships will benefit the food bank.

“Our first event was a wonderful success and the proceeds fed many in our community that would have otherwise gone hungry” said Food Bank Director Ted Thompson.

Alliance Rubber Company hosting students for National Manufacturing Day

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - The world’s largest manufacturer of rubber bands is hosting an event on October 2 in celebration of National Manufacturing Day.

The Alliance Rubber Company is giving the public a chance to see the inner-workings of manufacturing. During the event, sixth graders from Fountain Lake School will have the opportunity to tour the facility, learn about manufacturing and hear about career opportunities in the manufacturing field.

The students will arrive at 9 a.m. on Friday to the Alliance Rubber Company facility located at 210 Carpenter Dam Road in Hot Springs.

Amy Fecher, deputy director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, will be one of the speakers during the event, and Assistant Hot Springs Mayor Rick Ramick will be in attendance.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Magic Springs is bringing back its annual “Magic Screams” Halloween event. 

Beginning on October 10 and continuing through November 1, the park will be open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays for the public to experience a good scream for Halloween.  

Several of the park’s rides will be open, including X-Coaster, The Gauntlet, Wild Thang, Big Bad John, Ozark Mountain Taxi Co., Razorback Roundup (enclosed with black light paint), the Carousel and the kiddie rides.

“We have the largest Halloween event in the state, possibly in the region and want our visitors to enjoy every bit of it,” said General Manager Steve Honeycutt.

Malvern Chamber breakfast at College of the Ouachitas

MALVERN, Ark. (KTHV) - The Malvern Chamber of Commerce will host a member breakfast on Thursday. 

The chamber invites all members to join them at the College of the Ouachitas at 8 a.m. for a breakfast catered by Jimmy's Family Restaurant. 

Tony Gatlin, owner of Strictly Art Photography, will be giving a personal experience presentation starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until 11 a.m. 

Courtesy of Farmer's Bank &Trust, all of the food will be provided at no cost to the members and guests.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Roller Coaster Race announced that registration is now open for its original-concept race coming to Magic Springs in Hot Springs, Ark. on Saturday, October 17.

The race takes place on the second weekend of “Magic Screams,” the park’s Halloween-themed event, and marks Roller Coaster Race’s sixth and final event of its 2015 season.

Hot Springs National Park says goodbye to Champion Trees Exhibit

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - Hot Springs National Park is bidding farewell to the “Arkansas Champion Trees: An Artist Journey” and welcomes the public to a special reception on September 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to honor artist Linda Williams Palmer at the Cultural Center on Bathhouse Row.

Light refreshments will be served courtesy of the Friends of Hot Springs National Park.  The Cultural Center is located at the former Ozark Bathhouse and it is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The final day of the Champion Trees exhibit is September 20.

According to the National Park Service, more than 2,400 visitors have browsed and enjoyed the Champion Trees exhibit since its opening in January 2015.
