MALVERN, Ark. (KTHV) - The Rockport Police Department is trying to raise attendance and funds  for the Special Olympics Arkansas at the Shiver on the River 2016 event happening on February 13. 

Shiver on the River is just one of the water plunging events happening around the state during the month of February that is used to raise funds for the Special Olympics Arkansas. 

Officials ask community to participate in Freezin' for a Reason

Teams will plunge themselves into the Ouachita River at Whitewater Park located at 904 Riverview Drive in Malvern.

To get more people involved, Rockport police is offering a special award. This year, the Rockport Police Department will be awarding a Glock pistol with "Shiver on the River 2016" inscribed on it along with other items to the ones who raise the most funds. Only the ones taking the plunge will be elgible to win the Glock. Each extra $100 they raise will gain them an extra ticket towards winning the Glock.  

"When this first kicked off I set a goal of where I would really like this event to reach. We are really wanting this to be a success this year and hope to continue many years from now," said Officer Joe Duboise with the Rockport Police Department.

Registration will take place on February 13 at noon at Whitewater Park and the plunge will take place at 1 p.m.
