Arts Council calls for submissions

LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Arkansas Arts Council is accepting submissions by Arkansas artists for the 25th annual 2012 Small Works on Paper exhibition. Works of art selected by a juror will be featured in a year-long exhibition that travels to 10 Arkansas communities. Deadline for entries is July 22, 2011.

Artists may download the entry form at www.arkansasarts.org or contact Cheri Leffew, special events/program manager, at (501) 324-9767 or cheri@arkansasheritage.org.

Arkansas artists may enter up to three works of art on paper (no larger than 24x24 inches) for a fee of $10 per entry or $25 for three entries. Entries will be juried by Marcia Goldenstein, a prominent artist and art professor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Works must have been completed within the last two years.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- It's that time of year again! Little Rock Fashion Week is just around the corner, and prospective models are coming from all corners of the state for their chance to walk the walk at the big event.

The LRFW 2011 Model Search is May 21-22 at Moody Chapel AME Church (5630 Mabelvale Pike) in Little Rock. THV's Lauren Clark is one of the judges for the event, and she sat down for a chat with Executive Director Brandon Campbell about what to expect at the audition.

Scholarships available at Oxford American Writers' Summit

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Oxford American will offer five scholarships (including tuition, room, and board) for Arkansas college students to attend the inaugural Oxford American Summit for Ambitious Writers occurring June 21–26, 2011, at Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain.

"These scholarships will allow the most promising young writers at Arkansas colleges to learn from some of the best writers and editors in the nation," said Marc Smirnoff, editor of The Oxford American.  "We are pleased to be able to extend this opportunity to our home-state students."

The scholarships will be awarded to the five best student applications (as judged by the Summit’s Fiction and Creative Nonfiction admission boards) received from two- and four-year Arkansas colleges and universities.
