Arkansas Agriculture Department & Farm Credit announce Arkansas Grown School Gardens of the Year

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Among 28 school garden contestants from across Arkansas, four have been chosen as Arkansas Grown School Garden of the Year contest winners. School garden criteria included any Arkansas school, grades pre-K-12, with a working school garden during the 2014-2015 school year with photo or video documentation of garden activities. 

Winning schools from Marion, Madison, Pulaski, and Hot Spring Counties are as follows:

·         Overall School Garden Winner: Yellville-Summit Schools, Yellville

·         Best Nutrition Education Based School Garden: Kingston School, Kingston (near Jasper)

·         Best Environmental Based Education School Garden: Forest Park Elementary School, Little Rock

Executive Director of Malvern/Hot Spring County Chamber of Commerce resigns

MALVERN, Ark. (KTHV) - Nikki Launius, Executive Director of Malvern/Hot Spring County Chamber of Commerce, announced that she will resign from the Chamber effective October 30.

Launius plans to travel with her husband, Richard, an engineer who works for an Italian company. She will also handle marketing of a new side venture that she and her husband are starting up.

"I have really enjoyed my 7 years at the chamber," Launius said. "I believe this position allowed me to grow professionally and help my hometown at the same time." she said.

Central Park Fusion Cuisine hosts HS Wine & Food Fest

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - Central Park Cuisine will host the Hot Springs Wine & Food Fest Saturday.

The festival is the leading fundraiser for Project HOPE Food Bank, with a goal of raising money to fight food insecurity in the community. 

The event will be held on October 17 at Central Park Fusion Cuisine.  Doors open at 2 p.m. with gourmet hors d'oevre prepared by Chef Matt Fuller and pared with fine wines.  There will also be live music and a silent auction. 

All proceeds from the silent auction, raffle and table sponsorships will benefit the food bank.

“Our first event was a wonderful success and the proceeds fed many in our community that would have otherwise gone hungry” said Food Bank Director Ted Thompson.

Alliance Rubber Company hosting students for National Manufacturing Day

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) - The world’s largest manufacturer of rubber bands is hosting an event on October 2 in celebration of National Manufacturing Day.

The Alliance Rubber Company is giving the public a chance to see the inner-workings of manufacturing. During the event, sixth graders from Fountain Lake School will have the opportunity to tour the facility, learn about manufacturing and hear about career opportunities in the manufacturing field.

The students will arrive at 9 a.m. on Friday to the Alliance Rubber Company facility located at 210 Carpenter Dam Road in Hot Springs.

Amy Fecher, deputy director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, will be one of the speakers during the event, and Assistant Hot Springs Mayor Rick Ramick will be in attendance.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts 2015-16 Science and Arts Café lecture series will feature Henderson State University professor Dr. Travis Langley and several ASMSA faculty members.

The first lecture on Thursday, Oct. 8, features ASMSA French instructor Bryan Adams, who will present “French Crash Course Using the AIM Method.” AIM stands for Accelerative Integrated Methodology, which uses gestures, music, dance and theater to help students learn a new language. Adams’ lecture will help attendees learn some French using AIM during the session.

Malvern Chamber breakfast at College of the Ouachitas

MALVERN, Ark. (KTHV) - The Malvern Chamber of Commerce will host a member breakfast on Thursday. 

The chamber invites all members to join them at the College of the Ouachitas at 8 a.m. for a breakfast catered by Jimmy's Family Restaurant. 

Tony Gatlin, owner of Strictly Art Photography, will be giving a personal experience presentation starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until 11 a.m. 

Courtesy of Farmer's Bank &Trust, all of the food will be provided at no cost to the members and guests.

Roller Coaster Race Coming to Magic Springs on Oct. 17

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Roller Coaster Race announced that registration is now open for its original-concept race coming to Magic Springs in Hot Springs, Ark. on Saturday, October 17.

The race takes place on the second weekend of “Magic Screams,” the park’s Halloween-themed event, and marks Roller Coaster Race’s sixth and final event of its 2015 season.
