Police: Man shoots at brother during argument

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) – Benton police said a man shot at his brother during an argument and is now in custody.

According to Lt. Kevin Russell, the shooting happened around 9:47 p.m. April 15 on the 800 block of South Main Street. Thomas Garrett, 35, of Benton, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a household family member, public intoxication, and discharging a firearm inside city limits.

While witnesses did say the victim was injured, he was found with no apparent injuries. He has been charged with public intoxication.

This footage was obtained by a nearby surveillance camera showing a truck hitting a parked vehicle which in turn hit the vehicle parked in front of it.

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) – The Benton Police Department is looking for more information regarding a hit-and-run accident.

According to the police department, a Dodge Ram truck struck a vehicle, pushed it into another vehicle in front of it, and fled. The incident happened on Saline Circle.

Church hosts benefit concert for seriously injured mother

SHERIDAN, Ark. (KTHV) - The Immanuel Baptist Church will host a benefit concert on April 24 for a mother who was seriously injured in an automobile accident recently.

Ashlea Keisler Moore is a single mother raising her 11-year-old son. She is facing a minimum of six months of recovery time with limited resources.

The Kinsmen will be performing at the benefit concert at 7 p.m. on April 24 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Sheridan. They are inviting the community to come and support Moore. Admission for the concert is free, but the church will be accepting donations. All of the proceeds will go to Moore to help with her recovery.

BNPD launches "My Safer City” initiative

BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - During the month of April, the Benton Police Department is going to try and raise awareness to the alcohol and drug related substance abuse in the community.

The police's initiative "My Safer City" plans to give more information about substance abuse through classes that will target those most likely to be affected.

The school resource officers will be teaching classes this month to students about the dangers of drinking and driving along with illicit drug usage. According to officials, some of the classes will be targeting high school students prior to upcoming events such as prom and graduation.

In addition to the classes, the Benton Police Department is also holding Operation Medicine Cabinet XI on April 25. Officers will staff a drop-off location, Ferguson's Furniture off Military Road, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for people to drop off all of their old or unused medications.

Pulaski, Saline Co. see 12 arrests on 23 active felony bench warrants

UNDATED (KTHV) - Twelve individuals were taken into custody Monday, March 30 on 23 active felony bench warrants.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office joined up with the Benton Police Department, Bryant Police Department and the United States Marshal's Service to conduct the arrests. According to officials, there were six teams comprised of over 30 deputies, U.S. agents and K-9 units holding the investigation.

Following are the names, race, sex, ages and charges of the people arrested:

1. Suzie Cox W/F 30 YOA FTA for hot checks

2. Constance Jackson B/F 45 YOA FTA for narcotic violations

Garland County sheriff warns of jury duty phone scam

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Garland County Sheriff Michael McCormick is warning of an old phone scam that is making its rounds again.

Several Garland County residents have reported that they were contacted by phone and told that they had not reported for jury duty. The callers have identified themselves as being with the Garland County Sheriff's Department and that warrants had been issued for their arrest. The caller then tells victims that arrest could be avoided by purchasing a $500 debit card from Kroger. The caller then tells the victim to call them back with number of the debit card and the pin number.
